Seeking Solitude

Lauren

How wonderful would it be if, instead of regarding solitude as something with which we need to "cope," we could come to enjoy it so much that we actively sought it out? In the past few weeks I have written about activities to do alone, as well as songs celebrating solitude. Here are some additional ideas of products that may inspire you to enrich your alone time so that it becomes something you can not only tolerate, but something you can cherish.

Consider picking up a hobby that you can appreciate alone, such as knitting with this (1.) Chunky Yarn by Loops and Threads, $3 (Michaels). Allow yourself to be inspired by Henry David Thoreau's appreciation of solitude through reading (2.) Walden, $9 (Barnes and Noble). The time you spend alone in the bath can only be made sweeter with this (3.) Blackberry Bath Bomb, $6.40 (LUSH). Use this (4.) TKO Rubber Yoga Mat, $13 (SAKS off 5th) as you develop an exercise routine that honors alone time spent in reflective silence. Explore your neighborhood/city to find sacred spaces that you visit alone, then capture photos of these spaces with a (5.) Kodak Fun Saver Single Use Camera, $15 (Walgreens). Hang these photos up around your living space to remind you how special alone time can be.

Another great way to spend your alone time might be to make some of these products on your own! Check out these links below for some simple DIYs:
